R.I.P Reuben Kee.

Reuben Kee.
This is Reuben Kee.

On Friday, Reuben was in Cambodia competing in a Dragonboat race. His team of 20 had completed the race, and instead of waiting for a safety boat to pick them up, the team decided to paddle back to shore. On the way, a wave hit the boat and it capsized.

15 of the teammates were picked up and brought to safety. 5 went missing. Reuben was one of them. This afternoon, the 5 missing bodies were found. Thus far, only 2 have been identified, but we can assume that Reuben is one of them.

I don’t know what to think right now, my heart is so heavy. I didn’t know Reuben well, but I know that he was a great guy. That picture above was taken by me for my last shoot ever for The Straits Times. It was the cover for Mind Your Body. I was given the assignment just the day before, because my colleague who was supposed to shoot it fell ill. I rushed to find a location and more importantly, a model.

That’s where Reuben came in. He had posed for me before for the Hot Bods section of Lifestyle, and was willing enough to take some time off to pose for this cover. I was really indebted to him. Now, I wish I has taken time to get to know him better.

He was only 23 and so talented, a music composer and an avid sportsman. An only child too.

I’d like for all of you to say a prayer for him and his family, because this is really a tragedy that should have never happened.

R.I.P Reuben, the Lord is lucky to have you with him. You will be missed by all.
